Award Categories

For 2025 we have 12 awards in total, suitable for individuals, organisations or businesses. You are welcome to nominate or self-nominate for more than one award, but please ensure the information you provide is relevant to that specific award (as this is what you’ll be judged on!).

Sustainability Award

Awarded to the business or enterprise that has made the greatest stride towards environmental sustainability. This may include efforts towards green energy, supply side changes, greener practices, or anything reasonably believed to contribute towards sustainability. Innovative, new, or creative methods to increase sustainability are particularly interesting.

Retail Excellence Award

Awarded to the business that has contributed most to the retail scene of Aberystwyth. This award may be awarded for longstanding existence, increased diversity of goods on offer in Aberystwyth, noteworthy or unique product lines, or anything else that has contributed in a positive way to the retail scene of Aberystwyth.

Food and Drink Champion

Awarded to the business or enterprise that has done the most to increase Aberystwyth’s profile as a place to eat, drink, and enjoy. This may be by offering new experiences, cuisines, or spaces that enrich what Aberystwyth and its area to offer. 

Aberystwyth Ambassador

Awarded for the business, enterprise, or project that has made a notable and unique contribution to the promotion of Aberystwyth. Whether it is a project that has drawn people here, a reason for people to visit more often, or simply a thing that has put Aber on the map. Commitment to locality, language, heritage, culture, or co-operation is appreciated.

New Business of the Year

Awarded to the business that has made the biggest splash in their entrance to the Aberystwyth business scene. Through hardship, worry, commitment, and dedication, our new business’ bloom and joins the rich tapestry of what Aber has to offer! Businesses in operation for less than 3 years are eligible for this award.

Creative Arts & Literature Award

Awarded to the business, enterprise, or project that has enlivened and enriched the already brilliant reputation Aber has as a scene of arts and literature. With the collective effort towards the UNESCO City of Literature award in mind, businesses that have contributed to our efforts are viewed more favourably.

Welsh Language Champion

Who in our community helps promote, celebrate, and support the Welsh language? Open to individuals (including learners and teachers), businesses, and organisations. Celebrating the Welsh language could mean helping others learn Welsh, producing bilingual materials, enabling more Welsh language events, or simply introducing Welsh to new communities.

Sport & Wellbeing in the Community

Does your organisation support community through sport or sport activities? We want to recognise the importance of sport in our communities, and the positive impact sport has on our wellbeing. Open to individuals, groups, or large teams.

Community Spirit Award

This award is all about those heroes in our community who encourage, who support, and who work to make our area a better place – whether that’s organising litter picks, supporting others, or checking in on your neighbours – we want to give recognition to any individual, business or organisation that contributes to Aberystwyth in a positive way.

Trader of the Year Award

Have you had excellent service from your plumber, electrician, gardener, builder? This year, we want to celebrate the hard work and dediction of our trade sector, which provides services not only in Aberystwyth but for much of mid and west Wales. Open to sole traders and companies.
